Charm City tofu's origin story
Charm City Tofu started in 2022 out of the need for fresh, healthy, vegetable-based options for my family. What started as a need, turned into a passion when I discovered how much better home-made tofu tasted compared to store-bought.
As I learned more about vegetarian and vegan cooking, I learned more about the importance of flavors and textures as well as the science of cooking. I also became more aware of the limited options for vegans and for people with dietary restrictions due to allergies and intolerances.
Charm City Tofu is proud to offer the finest range of tofus made from soybeans, pumpkin seeds and lentils, soups, gluten-free baked goods and veggie burgers. All vegan and organic. We strive for a zero waste business using compostable packaging and creating our non-tofu ranges from the tofu byproducts – okara and whey.
Okara is the nutritious solid that is left over after producing the milk of the soybean or pumpkin seed and the whey is the liquid remnant after cooking the milk. Okara is useful for a range of cuilinary applications including baking and savory patties, burgers and loaves. Whey is a delicious, nutritious base for our soups.
